The best paintings and museum in Russia
The museum had Fantastic location; there were impressive palace rooms and amazing arts. But it was a pity that some of the arts were so poorly displayed with poor lights. Photos are allowed. The extra choice of visiting the royal jewelers was good, the guide’s English was too hard to understand and we were got through at a fast pace. The authorities seem quite serious about security, few people got too close to the paintings.
Also most people were interested in the Spanish 19th/20th century paintings, if you like them, you can go up the stairs to the 2nd floor, and instead of following the crowd, turn right and right again and walk down the long corridor. If you follow this route, you can go straight to the 3rd floor and then walk through to the last Picasso room. We got there at 11:15am and there was only a Babushka sitting there. We saw the paintings of Picassos, Degas, there were all in an empty rooms. After an hour the crowds started coming through from the upstairs, then we saw our highlights.
We could hardly say how many precious things of arts are kept in the museum.
This fabled place was really a glut to our eyes. Because there was far more than they could be seen during a rushed and crowded tour, I recommend you to spend as much time as possible to explore the museum. Everything was very clearly labeled in English and you can easily avoid the crowds, but at the most famous paintings you need a bit of patience. The art lover will wish to spend the most of the whole day, while others will find that the full afternoon was satisfactory. The tours are firstly for those who are with only a little interest in art and architecture. But it was really hard to rush through rooms full of treasures while seeing only few of them.
